Residents of Frinton-on-Sea pay private security firm to patrol streets In a fashion not too dissimilar from the US operations residents of Essex coastal town Frinton-on Sea have opted to pay privately for additional security. The town has no local Police station with the nearest being Clacton-on-Sea, about 7.5 miles away and relies on local police community support officers (PCSO) to protect the community. As reported in The Guardian ‘Now, the security company AGS has revealed that 300 residents pay it £2 each a week for staff to drive around the town every night between 7pm and 7am, as well as to provide an emergency phone line – though residents call 999 if the situation is serious.’ AGS Land Rover The local firm AGS is run by former military man Stephen Beardsley, AGS staff patrol the area in Land Rovers with a look not too dissimilar from a Highways Agency Patrol car. The team members wear security hi-vis uniforms and at first glance look like the Police. With circa 300 contributing the charge for this additional security is around £2 per week.
