Motability and Scheme partners take part in 1,150 mile challenge to support disabled people with their personal mobility

A team of over 150 people took part in Motability’s Coast to Coast Challenge on Friday 11 September, aiming to raise £10,000 to support disabled people with their personal mobility.

Coast to Coast
The challenge saw participants from Motability, Motability Operations, RSA Motability, Europcar, Kwik Fit and RAC travel 1,150 miles on a combination of exercise bikes and treadmills that were set up in offices around the UK. It was part of a challenge to travel the furthest distance between Motability Scheme customers. They travelled the equivalent distance from Unst on the Shetland Islands, to St Clement in Jersey, via Castlederg in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

All equipment was provided by Hire Fitness, the UK’s leading Fitness equipment hire Specialist, and in Leicester participants used the facilities at Bannatyne’s Health Club.

Aine Canavan, Motability Corporate Accounts and Events Executive, said: “The Motability Scheme supports thousands of disabled people around the country. We are proud to organise fundraising events like the Coast to Coast Challenge so that colleagues can raise money for customers who cannot afford the car, adaptation or driving lessons they need to stay mobile.

“I would like to thank all those who took part, as well as the companies and individuals for their generous donations. This money will make a real difference to disabled people around the UK.”

To support the teams, donations can still be made online at: justgiving.com/motabilitycoasttocoastchallenge2015

Motability’s charitable work relies on voluntary income and aims to raise around £2.8 million each year to help customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the mobility solution they need. This income is raised through fundraising events, corporate support, individual fundraising, charitable trust and foundation donations and from trading activities.
