Block my mobile, I’ll drink to that!

A story first reported by local Brighton & Hove newspaper The Argus has really caught the attention of the national media. The Argus headline ‘Mobile phone signals blocked from new Hove Gin bar’ inform us of a novel concept in enjoying your evening out-the blocking of your mobile phone signal. The bar named The Gin Tub situated in Hove West Sussex embraces the reassurgence of all thing gin, with 50 different varieties on offer.

Though you are undoubtedly spoiled for choice when it comes to gin using your smartphone is a different matter. The bars owners have adopted the stance that phones can have the evening off in their establishment.

Business partners Steve Tyler and Scot Callister the owners of The Gin Tub have ingeniously installed a contraption called a Faraday Cage inside, a copper screen which blocks mobile signals.

The Argus reported ‘The idea came out of a not unreasonable desire to return to time when people would talk to one another at bars.’

Steve explained: “Mobile phones have killed pubs. I hate seeing a whole group of people sitting there on their phones.

“Rather than telling people they can’t use their phones we’ve basically disabled them.”

Do you think Steve and Scott have a great idea, so many bars, restaurants and public places are filled with us forever checking our smartphones ?
