These are the top 40 things over 65s say keep them feeling young News Copy – By Astrid Hall An active love life, drinking red wine and doing yoga are among the top 40 things which keep you young, according to research. The poll of 1,500 over-65s also revealed singing along to music, spending time with people younger than yourself and doing puzzles also featured. And when it comes to how you feel on the inside, the outside does matter, with wearing whatever clothes you like, treating yourself to a nice haircut and remaining physically active also appearing on the list of ways to help keep you feeling spritely. Eight in 10 near-retirees believe in the phrase ‘you’re only as young as you feel’, with 78 per cent claiming to feel younger than the number on their last birthday card. The research was commissioned by Fairy Non-Bio and found, on average, respondents feel around nine years younger than they actually are. Three quarters put this down to keeping a positive mental attitude, while just under half thank a healthy lifestyle. Older Brits think their physical appearance has a lot to say about the age they feel, with more than half admitting they’ve changed their style and clothing choices as they aged. Almost a third now favour softer fabrics such as cotton to avoid irritating their skin, and 46 per cent opt for looser fitting clothes. And a quarter wear far fewer bold patterns and prints than they did in their youthful heyday. Over 50 per cent of over-65s confess to finding their skin has increased in sensitivity as they’ve got older. And some of the top ways to try and combat this include changing hand or body soap, changing what they wash their clothes with or trying different styles of clothing.
