Impartial opinion on the question ‘How old do I look’?

Impartial opinion on the question ‘How old do I look’?

Not wanting to become too age obsessed in our advancing years, but with an irreverent approach to that old question ‘How old do I look’? – our intrepid research team (Jemma & Charlie) decided to seek out websites of interest in this field.

How-Old.net

How Old .net
Website: www.how-old.net
Here those geniuses over at Microsoft have invented some gizmo which utilises facial recognition technology, some impressive software (most probably used by secret agents) is now available to all of us. The imperative commercial use is to –of coarse guess how old we look!

How does it work?
The website, called how-old.net, allows you to easily upload any photo , and in a matter of moments, it will come back with an estimated age. The technology is for fun only and has several disclaimers (most useful if you find your other half aggrieved at the perceived age!) We experimented with ourselves for a giggle, and then decided to check out the programme on some of well known TV stars, what better show than the BBCs ‘Boomers’ :

The BBC One comedy series Boomers has a stellar cast of much-loved British actors. Boomers follows the ups and downs of three couples living in Thurnemouth, 'Norfolk's only West-facing resort.'
The BBC One comedy series Boomers has a stellar cast of much-loved British actors. Boomers follows the ups and downs of three couples living in Thurnemouth, ‘Norfolk’s only West-facing resort.’

The actors actual ages are considerably lower (bar one, which is obviously wrong!):
Left to right
Russ Abott (68 years old)
Stephanie Beacham (69)
Philip Jackson (67)
Alison Steadman (69)
James Smith (68)
Paula Wilcox (66)
June Whitfield (90)

The website and technology is improving all the time, well worth a visit for a bit of fun. We’d love too see how you got on, forward us your results.

For those of us interested in accuracy here’s a splendid website to allow us to calculate all manner of things. The programme allows you to enter your birth dates and instantly calculates your age in years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds.

This got us thinking, we could use it to work out how long we’ve been married, divorced! Maybe how much we’ve earned per hour since we were born, here’s an example:

Sir Richard Branson (details above)
Net worth: £4.52 billion ($6.51 billion)
Age: 65
£7833,25 ph

The old UK meaning of a billion was a million million, or one followed by twelve noughts (1,000,000,000,000). The USA meaning of a billion is a thousand million, or one followed by nine noughts (1,000,000,000).

Take the test: What’s my real age?

In BBC One’s How To Stay Young hosted by Angela Rippon, Dr Chris van Tulleken set out to discover his biological age. Take the online quiz for fun and to perhaps improve your health outlook? In the test your real age score is intended to give you an approximate understanding of your health in comparison to the rest of the population.

Finally one of our favourites ‘Lab in the Wild’
Website : http://www.labinthewild.org/studies/color_age/

Katharina Reinecke co-founded LabintheWild to study how culture influences people’s preferences and abilities Katharina is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Washington. Here you can embark on several fascinating tests including guessing your age the experiment guesses how old you are based on how well you can distinguish between colours. At the end of the test, it will guess your real age based on your performance.
