A ‘Brexit’ would not affect the Interrail Pass for senior rail travel in Europe A ‘Brexit’ would not affect the Interrail Pass for senior rail travel in Europe A statement released on the Interrail website cites: ‘If you’re a UK citizen, you can travel with an Interrail Pass. This will not change if the UK decides to leave the EU in the upcoming referendum’. With the latest polls on a knife-edge, perhaps teetering towards a ‘Brexit’ its reassuring to see our rail travel looks immune to a decision either way.New rail pass products designed especially for senior travellers launched as part of innovative European Commission project. Travellers that are 60 years and over get a 10% discount on adult prices with a senior pass. It’s a popular pass, which proves that interrailing is loved by all ages. The senior discount is available for either 1st class or 2nd class travel. 60 and over You can buy a senior pass if you are 60 or over when you start using your Interrail pass. If you’re 59 on your first day of travel, you’ll need to order an adult pass. As part of a project co-funded by the European Union aiming to facilitate pan-European rail travel by seniors, Eurail Group G.I.E. and its project partners Treinreiswinkel, CEOMA, SEGITTUR, and the University of Eberswalde, are proud to announce the launch of Interrail Tours, and the Interrail Premium Pass, created especially with mature travellers in mind. Interrail Tours holiday packages (http://www.interrail-tours.com) have been developed as part of the innovative Senior Rail Travel Project, and utilise the popular Interrail Pass, a unique rail ticket enabling unlimited rail travel in up to 30 different European countries. The Senior Rail Travel Project looks to improve the choice, suitability, availability and accessibility of vacation packages for senior European residents. “Over 90 percent of seniors surveyed as part of the project viewed Europe as an appealing or extremely appealing holiday destination; however we witnessed a lack of relevant tourism packages catering to the distinct needs of mature travellers in Europe”, says Silvia Görlach, Sales & Marketing Manager for Eurail Group G.I.E. With rail holiday packages available in France, Italy or Spain, Interrail Tours effectively fill a gap, and help make experiencing the beauty and diversity of Europe more attainable for seniors. “Interrail Tours have been designed to remove common barriers to travel for mature travellers, providing quality accommodation located close to rail stations, free seat reservations, and ongoing support throughout the booking process, meaning customers can experience their ideal European holiday in one convenient rail package,” says Ms Görlach. Seniors can also take advantage of extra services like prearranged taxi transfers, and city sightseeing benefits to help make their trip even easier and comfortable. Customers can currently pick from 15 Interrail Tours based on their needs and personal interests. “With package destinations including Normandy and Avignon in France, Florence and Riomaggiore in Italy, and Cordoba and Bilbao in Spain, whether you’re a history buff, a fan of gastronomy, or an outdoor enthusiast, there’s an Interrail Tour suitable for all tastes,” adds Ms Görlach. In addition, the new Interrail Premium Pass for travel in either Spain or Italy was developed as part of the project and will be available for purchase via http://www.interrail.eu/premium-pass from 16 February 2016. Designed with the more independent 60+ traveller in mind, the Interrail Premium Pass allows pass holders to book their train reservations for free, and provides added extras to help along the journey such as discounted transfer services, and a free mobile destination guide from trusted provider Tripwolf. The launch of the Senior Rail Travel Project products were announced during the European Commission “Europe: The Best Destination for Seniors” Conference held in Florence, Italy from 4-5 February.
